Description
Friends linger over a long lunch on a balcony above the Seine, its striped red-and-white awning shading a table crowded with wine bottles, fruit, and half-cleared plates. A shirtless rower leans against the railing at left in conversation, a woman at the table cradles a small dog, and further back a cluster of guests in boaters and top hats keep talking, drinking, and laughing in the dappled light.
Painted in 1880 and now at the Phillips Collection, the picture is one of Renoir’s most crowded compositions, threading more than a dozen figures together while still giving each one a distinct gesture and expression, from the woman leaning on the railing to the couple murmuring near the doorway.
The print translates that busy, sunlit terrace faithfully, from the crisp white tablecloth to the awning’s red stripes, on museum-quality canvas or fine-art paper. Choose from several sizes to bring the scene’s warmth into your own dining room or living space.
