Description
Deux femmes couchées (1893) shows two young women reclining together on a grassy slope beneath a tree. One, in a pink dress and yellow straw hat, lies stretched out with her head resting on her hand, while the other, in a white dress, leans over her, propped on one elbow with eyes closed.
Renoir sets the pair against a warm landscape of ochre and rust-toned foliage under a pale sky, the loose brushwork giving the whole scene a drowsy, sunlit ease.
