A blonde young woman leans back at ease, one arm draped over the back of her seat, a pink rose tucked into her curls. Her loose blouse, gathered at the waist with gold buttons down the front, slips open at the shoulder in the relaxed, unposed way Renoir favored in his later years. Behind her, a full vase of roses in peach, cream, and soft yellow echoes the flower in her hair.

Everything here is warm: the skin, the hair, the flowers, even the hazy background, all built from the same honeyed palette so that the whole canvas seems to glow from within, a hallmark of Renoir’s late style.
