Description
This study sheet gathers several sketches around a bare canvas ground. At its center, a girl in a blue-grey dress turns sideways, dark hair pulled back, holding a paddle-like racket up near her shoulder against a patch of green foliage. In the upper right corner a separate head study shows a young girl’s face looking down, and at the lower right a small still life of a pear and an apple sits near the artist’s signature.
Left mostly unfinished, with broad areas of raw canvas around the painted vignettes, the sheet shows Renoir working out the pose and gesture of a girl playing battledore before committing the full composition to a finished picture.
This study is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction or as an archival canvas print, made to order in sizes that keep the proportions of the original 24.5 x 33 cm canvas.
