Description
Set well to the right of the canvas, a small standing figure in a flowing red dress rests one hand on her hip beneath a canopy of trees, almost absorbed into the dense woodland around her. She is dwarfed by the landscape itself, a thick tangle of green and gold foliage, dark tree trunks, and an arching branch that cuts across a patch of pale blue sky, with a hint of red-orange blossom glowing in the shaded undergrowth below.
Here Renoir treats the figure as one note within a larger landscape rather than the main subject, letting the woven brushwork of leaves, light, and sky carry most of the canvas while the red dress provides a single warm accent among the greens.
This work is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction or as an archival canvas print, made to order in sizes that keep the proportions of the original 39.4 x 49.5 cm canvas, drawn from the version held by the Barnes Foundation.
