Description
A woman sits on the ground at the foot of a tree, wearing a pink blouse and a golden-yellow skirt, a straw hat trimmed with a small pink flower shading her face. She leans back against the trunk, half-smiling, while a dense screen of dappled green and blue-green foliage rises behind her, broken by patches of warm light filtering through the leaves.
Renoir dissolves the whole scene into short, broken strokes of pink, yellow, and green, so that the woman’s dress and the surrounding woodland seem to be made of the same sunlit color, a landscape and figure painted as a single harmony rather than separate elements.
This work is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction or as an archival canvas print, made to order in sizes that keep the proportions of the original 27 x 24.1 cm canvas, drawn from the version held by the Barnes Foundation.
