Description
From a terrace thick with blossoming shrubs, Renoir looks down over masses of white and pale pink flowers and silvery olive trees toward a strip of deep blue sea. A cluster of small, red-roofed houses catches the light on the far shore, and a tall dark pine leans in from the right edge, framing the view. In the lower foreground a rosy, sunlit path and a small grazing animal ground the scene.
The paint is applied in soft, feathery strokes, blues, pinks, and greens dissolving into one another under a hazy Mediterranean sky. It is a warm, intimate garden view rather than a grand seascape, typical of the years Renoir spent working around Cagnes-sur-Mer.
Held today at the Osthaus-Museum Hagen, this painting is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction or an archival canvas print, made to order in the size of your choice.
