Description
A young woman with reddish-brown hair pulled back into a low knot turns her head slightly, her blue eyes looking off to the side and her lips faintly rouged. Her shoulders are bare and pale, wrapped only in the barest suggestion of white drapery at the lower edge of the canvas, and her cheeks carry a warm flush of pink and coral. Behind her, a screen of dark green foliage, broken by touches of deep blue and gold, fills the background with dappled, decorative color rather than any recognizable setting.
Dated 1887 and painted at 31 x 25.5 cm, this portrait head belongs to Renoir’s mid-career interest in women shown close up against loosely brushed greenery, a favorite pairing of his Impressionist years.
This reproduction of Tête de femme is available as a hand-painted oil copy on canvas or as an archival giclee print, made to order in a range of sizes close to the original 31 x 25.5 cm format or scaled up, and delivered ready to hang.
