Description
A rocky cove opens onto a green-blue sea under a hazy sky streaked with lavender and cream. Golden, sun-warmed cliffs frame the water on both sides, and a scatter of small rock islets breaks the surface where the waves roll in. In the shallows, several figures wade and bathe: two children in pale dress stand knee-deep near a sunlit outcrop, a woman in a dark skirt crouches at the water’s edge sorting something in her hands, and further out a bather in red moves through the current beside a taller, upright form rising from the sea. The brushwork is loose and warm throughout, with ochre, coral, and moss-green strokes built up over the rock faces.
Painted in 1883 and now associated with Villa Flora, this coastal scene captures the everyday pleasure of a summer swim rather than a posed or formal subject.
This reproduction of Sur la plage de Guernesey is available as a hand-painted oil copy on canvas or as an archival giclee print, made to order in a range of sizes close to the original 46 x 55 cm format or scaled up, and delivered ready to hang.
