Description
This small landscape looks across a gently rolling countryside toward a white house with a red tiled roof, tucked among green trees on a hillside. Soft clouds drift across a pale blue sky, and in the foreground a grassy slope is dotted with young saplings and pale rocks, painted in loose, feathery strokes of green, gold, and rust.
Renoir spent time in the village of Essoyes, in the Champagne countryside, and this 1900 canvas reflects that rural setting with an easy, unhurried touch; no figures interrupt the quiet sweep of fields and trees. It is held today at the Musée d’Art d’Indianapolis.
Springtime in Essoyes is available as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival canvas print, made to order in a range of sizes and delivered ready to hang.
