Description
A young woman with reddish-brown hair swept into a soft updo turns her head slightly to face the viewer, wearing a high-collared blouse in burnt orange with a dark, puffed trim at the shoulder. Her expression is quiet and direct, set against a plain, pale cream backdrop with the faint suggestion of a curtain fold.
Painted in 1895, the small canvas is dominated by warm, earthy colour: the deep orange of the blouse against the soft beige wall, with the auburn hair tying the two together. Renoir’s brushwork is confident and economical, built up in short strokes that leave the fabric looking soft and slightly loose.
This work is available as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print. It reproduces the painting held at the Tacoma Art Museum; it is a reproduction, not the original work.
