Description

Seen in profile against a rich green ground, a woman wears her auburn hair swept up and pinned with a small gold ornament, a red beaded choker circling her neck above a white blouse. A dark fur wrap gathers at her shoulders, framing the pale skin of her throat and collarbone.

Renoir builds the profile with soft, blended strokes, the warm flesh tones set off by the cooler, textured green of the background, while the fur is suggested with quick, dark, feathery touches rather than tight detail. The mood is calm and self possessed, a quiet moment of stillness.

Held at the Morohashi Museum of Modern Art and measuring 54 x 45 cm in the original, this work is offered as a hand painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print, made as a reproduction and not as the original painting.

The craft

The oil edition of this Renoir artwork is painted by hand on canvas. A canvas art print reproduces the image in ink, with the brushmarks visible in the picture rather than raised paint.

  • Oil editions painted individually by studio artists
  • Canvas prints reproduce the image on canvas
  • Individually quality-inspected before it leaves the studio
  • Made to order in your chosen size and presentation

Materials & Care

Materials

The oil reproduction is painted on cotton canvas; the art print is printed on canvas. Rolled canvas arrives without a stretcher. Stretched canvas is mounted on a wooden stretcher frame; thin and thick frames are separate presentation choices.

On request, the studio provides a certificate for your hand-painted reproduction; it certifies the studio's work, not an original by the artist.

Care

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid cleaning products, prolonged direct sunlight and damp conditions.

Sizing

Choose a size and presentation in the options above. Both editions keep the original image proportions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size is the original painting and what sizes can I order?

The original measures 54 x 45 cm and hangs at the Morohashi Museum of Modern Art. We reproduce it at this size as well as several other standard sizes for your space.

What is the difference between the two reproduction options?

A hand painted oil reproduction is painted by hand on canvas, while an archival giclee canvas print is a high quality printed reproduction. Both faithfully reproduce Renoir's painting, but neither is the original held at the museum.

How is my reproduction made and delivered?

Each piece is made to order and shipped worldwide, arriving ready to hang. Hand painted oil reproductions take longer to produce than archival canvas prints since each one is painted individually by hand.
