Description

A blue and white porcelain cup sits on its matching saucer at the left, with a second small blue and white dish tucked behind it. To the right of the china lies a large pale yellow green banana, and beyond it a group of oranges, several still attached to a leafy twig that trails forward across the cloth.

Everything rests on a white cloth laid over a table, against a russet brown wall. The porcelain is the one thing Renoir draws: the blue pattern on the cup is legible, the handle is precise, while the fruit is modelled purely in turning colour with no contour at all.

He signed at the upper left. The canvas is 23.5 by 35.5 centimetres and belongs to the Barnes Foundation.

The craft

The oil edition of this Renoir artwork is painted by hand on canvas. A canvas art print reproduces the image in ink, with the brushmarks visible in the picture rather than raised paint.

  • Oil editions painted individually by studio artists
  • Canvas prints reproduce the image on canvas
  • Individually quality-inspected before it leaves the studio
  • Made to order in your chosen size and presentation

Materials & Care

Materials

The oil reproduction is painted on cotton canvas; the art print is printed on canvas. Rolled canvas arrives without a stretcher. Stretched canvas is mounted on a wooden stretcher frame; thin and thick frames are separate presentation choices.

On request, the studio provides a certificate for your hand-painted reproduction; it certifies the studio's work, not an original by the artist.

Care

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid cleaning products, prolonged direct sunlight and damp conditions.

Sizing

Choose a size and presentation in the options above. Both editions keep the original image proportions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes can I order?

Sizes are set by the short edge, from 30 up to 150 centimetres, and the long edge follows this painting's own proportions, so nothing is cropped or stretched. Every option is shown in centimetres and inches. The original measures 23.5 by 35.5 centimetres, and an original-size option reproduces those dimensions exactly.

What will it be made of?

A reproduction in the medium you choose; the original is held by the Barnes Foundation. The default is a hand-painted oil reproduction, painted in oils on canvas. The alternative is a canvas art print. You then choose the finish: rolled, stretched on a chassis, or set in a thin or a thick frame.

What happens after I order?

The piece is made for your order in the size, medium and finish you select. The production time for the medium you pick is shown with the options on this page, and shipping is calculated at checkout for your delivery address.
