Description
Pierre-Auguste Renoir paints a seated nude seen from the side, her auburn hair gathered up, her head bowed as she gathers a white cloth in her lap with both hands. Warm pink and peach tones model her skin against a loosely brushed green backdrop, with a strip of golden yellow along the right edge. Painted in 1895 and held today in the musée Renoir, the small canvas (35.3 x 22.5 cm) shows the free, sketch-like brushwork typical of Renoir’s late figure studies.
