Description
A small cottage with a pink-orange tiled roof and shuttered windows sits nestled among dense, richly coloured trees in this intimate landscape sketch. A grassy path scattered with wildflowers leads toward the house, with foliage in deep greens, golds, and touches of red crowding close on every side beneath a patch of pale sky.
Painted on a small scale, likely worked quickly out of doors near Le Cannet on the French Riviera, the picture has the freshness and immediacy typical of Renoir’s plein air studies. The original is held in the collection of the Hermitage Museum. Offered here as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas, or an archival canvas print made with fade-resistant pigment inks, available in a range of sizes.
