Description
Girl at the Foot of a Tree shows a young girl in a straw hat, white blouse, and red-orange pinafore dress, seated on the ground at the base of a large, twisting tree trunk. She turns her head toward the viewer, her bare legs stretched out on the sunlit path beside her.
Behind her, a garden opens up in loose strokes of green and blue foliage, with a pale stone gatepost and gate visible in the middle distance and patches of blue sky breaking through the leaves overhead. Renoir paints the whole scene with quick, dappled brushwork, letting sunlight flicker across the grass, the tree bark, and the girl’s red dress.
Painted in 1914 and held at the Barnes Foundation, the canvas measures 55 by 66 centimetres. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, offered in a range of sizes.
