Description
A whitewashed cottage with a steep terracotta roof sits tucked into a green, brush-covered hillside overlooking a quiet inlet. Thick strokes of dark green, rust and gold describe the tangled shrubs and grass around the house, while beyond it, pale cliffs fade into a soft grey-lavender mist that blurs the line between hillside, sky and sea.
Painted in 1883 on the island of Guernsey, the picture captures damp, overcast coastal weather, with the fog softening every edge and muting the far shore into hazy bands of green, pink and cream.
The original, measuring 53.3 by 65.1 cm, is reproduced as a hand-painted oil reproduction or an archival canvas print, made to order in the size you choose, true to the original’s proportions.
