Description

On a golden sandy beach, a woman in a long rust-colored skirt and white blouse stands with her back to us, a woven basket hanging from her arm as she looks out toward sailboats on a turquoise sea. Beside her, a second woman in pale blue sits with a small white dog at her feet, while a child in a dark sailor suit and straw hat wanders further down the shore.

Painted in 1890, the scene captures a leisurely seaside afternoon, its figures anchored by broad, sunlit sand in the foreground and a bright band of blue green water dotted with white sails behind them.
