Description

Jeune femme au chapeau de paille, fond bleu et fruits shows a young woman with long, loose auburn hair falling over her bare shoulders, one hand raised to gather a strand of hair near her chest. She wears a wide-brimmed straw hat in mustard orange, and a white garment slips loosely off her shoulders. In the upper left corner, a branch with small orange fruit is loosely sketched in against the background.

The background is built from broad, hazy strokes of blue and grey, giving an open, atmospheric feel behind the figure, while the hat and hair are painted in warmer, more saturated tones of orange and rust. The brushwork throughout is loose and quick, typical of Renoir’s informal studies of the female figure.
