Description
A flowering shrub thick with small white and pink blossoms rises in the foreground, its branches set against tall golden grasses and greenery. Beyond the bushes, the Seine opens up with a few small boats drifting on its surface, and a single figure stands on the far bank near the water’s edge. Soft hills and scattered rooftops recede into a hazy, light-filled sky.
Painted in 1881 and now held at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, this 73.3 by 92.4 cm canvas shows Renoir working close to nature, letting blossoms and grasses fill most of the composition.
The Seine at Chatou is available as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival canvas print, made to order in a range of sizes and delivered ready to hang.
