Description
A group of nude women bathe together at the edge of a wooded stream. In the foreground one figure sits with her arm raised behind her head while a companion beside her stretches a leg out over the water, foot pointed toward the current. Further back a third woman stands with an arm lifted into the leafy canopy overhead, and at the far right two more bathers, one clearly a child, wade into the shallows. Dense trees and undergrowth in yellow green and ochre close the scene on every side, with only a patch of pale sky breaking through at the top.
Painted late in Renoir’s career, the canvas is built from chalky, dry strokes of pink, cream and pale gold laid over a loose green ground, giving the whole scene a soft, almost tapestry like shimmer rather than sharp detail.
This reproduction is available as a hand-painted oil or an archival canvas print, made to order in the size you choose and kept true to the proportions of Renoir’s original composition.
