Description
Two young girls fill this canvas in a garden setting rendered in soft greens and yellows. In front, a blonde girl wears a straw hat trimmed with red poppies and a blue ribbon and holds a small bunch of flowers, while behind her a second girl with dark red hair, dressed in a pink polka-dot sleeve, reaches up to adjust her own frilled white hat.
The gesture of one hat being fixed in place gives the scene a natural, unposed intimacy, as if caught in the middle of getting ready for a summer outing. Painted in 1893 and held in the Foundation E.G. Bührle Collection, Summer Hats captures Renoir’s enduring fascination with young girls, flowers, and the light dappled play of an outdoor afternoon.
Our reproduction of Summer Hats is available as a hand-painted oil copy on canvas or as an archival giclee print, made to order in a range of sizes and delivered ready to hang.
