Description
Two fish lie stretched across a white cloth or slab, a reddish-orange fish draped diagonally over a second, silvery-grey fish beneath it. Renoir paints their scales and fins with loose, glistening strokes of orange, rust, and blue-grey against a warm yellow-green background, the composition signed and dated 1911 at upper right.
The subject is a simple kitchen still life, freshly caught fish laid out as if just brought in from market, a subject Renoir returned to in his later years alongside flowers and fruit. It is part of the Museum Langmatt collection.
Still Life with Fish is available as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival canvas print, made to order in a range of sizes and shipped ready to hang.
