Description
Loose pink roses float against a field of green and blue in this unfinished study, with no vase or table indicated at all. Some blooms are fully realized in soft pink and cream, their petals modeled with real weight, while others near the edges are barely sketched in with a few quick strokes of red and white.
Renoir leaves much of the underlying green ground visible between the flowers, and the brushwork throughout is noticeably freer and more exploratory than in his finished still lifes, giving a rare glimpse of the working process behind his more polished rose paintings.
Painted around 1890, this sketch is offered as a hand painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print, a faithful reproduction of the study rather than the original work itself.
