Description
A long, narrow band of roses runs the full width of this canvas, so densely packed that no vase or stem is ever shown, just an unbroken drift of blossoms. Pink roses in various stages of opening sit beside two soft yellow blooms and a cluster of deeper coral red, while touches of blue green foliage weave between them to keep the eye moving from one flower to the next.
Renoir builds each petal from short, loaded strokes of pink, cream and rose madder, letting the paint stay visibly thick and fresh rather than smoothing it into a photographic finish. The warm honey coloured ground shows through in places, giving the whole frieze a glowing, sunlit warmth rather than a cool botanical precision.
This reproduction, painted from the version held at the Barnes Foundation, is offered as a hand painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print. It is a faithful copy made for display, not the original artwork.
