Description
Despite its title, this bouquet is far more than roses: tall red gladiolus like spikes and clusters of white flowers rise behind a single pale pink and white rose set prominently at the front, all gathered in a rounded brown earthenware jug. A dark purple bloom sits tucked among the white flowers on the right, adding a note of contrast to the warm palette.
Renoir lays the reds in thick, upright strokes that echo the shape of the spiky blooms, while the white flowers are built from loose dabs that catch the light against the darker foliage behind them. The jug and tabletop are painted in warm ochre and brown, with a red cloth glimpsed along the bottom edge of the canvas.
Painted in 1872, this work is offered as a hand painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print, faithfully copying the original composition for home display.
