Description
A young woman rests her head against her raised hand, elbow propped on a table edge, gazing gently downward with a faint smile. Her reddish hair is topped with a large white bow, and she wears a loose, cream-coloured blouse with a red pendant at her throat and a gold bracelet catching the light on her wrist.
Painted in 1877, the picture is built almost entirely from cool, feathery strokes of pale blue and lavender in the background and dress, broken by the warm accents of her hair, the red pendant and the glint of gold jewellery. The effect is soft and dreamy, with Renoir’s brush leaving the whole surface alive with light.
This piece is available as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print. It reproduces the painting held at the Barnes Foundation; it is a reproduction, not the original work.
