Description

A young woman sits in a bamboo armchair, dark hair pinned up and set off by a soft pink flower ornament. Her pale cream gown is gathered at the shoulder and sleeves with large, softly crumpled salmon-pink bows, and one hand rests on a bundle of white fabric, perhaps a hat or shawl, in her lap while the other rests on the chair’s curved arm. Her expression is composed and mild, lips faintly touched with colour.

Renoir keeps the whole scene in a narrow, harmonious range of warm neutrals, cream, beige and dusty pink, with the golden cane of the chair providing the only firm structural lines in an otherwise soft, atmospheric painting. The brushwork is loose throughout, blending fabric, chair and background into a single soft haze.

This portrait is available as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas, painted by hand to capture its soft, harmonious palette, or as an archival giclee canvas print made from a high-resolution scan. Both are reproductions for display, not the original painting.

The craft

The oil edition of this Renoir artwork is painted by hand on canvas. A canvas art print reproduces the image in ink, with the brushmarks visible in the picture rather than raised paint.

  • Oil editions painted individually by studio artists
  • Canvas prints reproduce the image on canvas
  • Individually quality-inspected before it leaves the studio
  • Made to order in your chosen size and presentation

Materials & Care

Materials

The oil reproduction is painted on cotton canvas; the art print is printed on canvas. Rolled canvas arrives without a stretcher. Stretched canvas is mounted on a wooden stretcher frame; thin and thick frames are separate presentation choices.

On request, the studio provides a certificate for your hand-painted reproduction; it certifies the studio's work, not an original by the artist.

Care

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid cleaning products, prolonged direct sunlight and damp conditions.

Sizing

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes are available for this reproduction?

We offer this portrait in a range of standard reproduction sizes. The original measures 92 x 73 cm, and we can reproduce it close to that scale or adjust it larger or smaller to suit your wall.

Is this a hand-painted reproduction or a print?

Both options are available. Our hand-painted oil reproductions are painted on canvas by an artist, matching the soft, blended brushwork of the original. Our archival giclee canvas prints use pigment inks on canvas. Neither is the original painting by Renoir.

How is my order produced and delivered?

Every order is made to order and shipped worldwide, arriving stretched and ready to hang. Hand-painted oil reproductions take longer to produce than canvas prints, since each is painted individually by hand.
