Description
A round-faced toddler with tousled light brown hair sits looking off to the side, dark eyes wide and lips slightly parted. The child wears a loose, fluffy white garment with a soft, furry texture at the shoulders, and holds a small yellow object in one plump hand while resting the other on a pink surface scattered with yellow marks, perhaps toys or blocks.
Renoir sets the whole figure against a vivid, hatched red-orange background, built from short, crosshatched strokes of colour that give the surface a soft, chalky texture rather than a smooth painted finish. The child’s face is handled more delicately, in gentle blended tones of cream and pink, while the red ground and white garment are left looser and more textured.
This portrait of Lucien Daudet as a baby is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas, painted by hand to recreate its warm colour and soft texture, or as an archival giclee canvas print made from a high-resolution scan. Both are reproductions for your own wall, not the original 1878 work.
