Description

Peaches and green-husked almonds are heaped together on a white cloth, the fruit’s warm reds and yellows set directly against the cool green of the almond hulls. A plain brown wall closes off the background, keeping the eye on the produce.

This is a dense, close-up still life, more fruit than cloth or table visible at all, painted with the same appetite for colour and texture Renoir brought to all his late kitchen-table studies.
