Description

A nude woman reclines on her stomach across a couch, seen entirely from the back, her head turned to rest on a patterned cushion of gold and dark green. One arm stretches up beside her auburn hair, the other tucks beneath, while her legs trail off the edge onto a loose white cloth that pools on the floor.

Renoir bathes the whole scene in warm golden light, the couch and background dissolving into loose strokes of ochre, moss green and honey yellow that seem to glow around the pale, rounded form of the figure. There is very little hard outline here, just soft transitions of color building the curve of back, hip and thigh.
