Description
Four nude boys play among rocky outcrops at the edge of the sea, their pale skin standing out against the blue and green water and the tawny, moss-covered rocks. One sits perched on a rock with his leg drawn up, another leans back against the stone, and two more wade further out, one with his hands raised as if bracing for a splash.
Painted in 1883 on the island of Guernsey, the scene is built from quick, broken strokes of blue, green and gold that dissolve the rocks and water into shimmering light, with distant cliffs and sailboats sketched loosely along the horizon.
This composition is available as a hand-painted oil reproduction or an archival canvas print, made to order in the size you choose, true to the original’s proportions.
