Description
A tall arum lily rises from a white ceramic pot at the center of this still life, its broad pale leaf and single white bloom catching the light against a dark, mottled backdrop streaked with rust orange. Around its base a crowded bank of greenhouse flowers spreads across the canvas, clusters of white hydrangea, small pink blossoms, deep blue hydrangea heads and, at the lower right, bright orange yellow tulips spilling from a terracotta pot. A wooden planter box packed with smaller blooms runs along the bottom edge of the composition.
Renoir paints the foliage in thick, varied greens against the dark ground, letting the white and blue flower clusters and the warm orange tulips carry the light across the canvas in a dense, almost overflowing arrangement.
This reproduction is available as a hand-painted oil or an archival canvas print, made to order in the size you choose and kept true to the proportions of Renoir’s original composition.
