Description
Heads of Two Young Girls shows two girls close together beneath a single wide-brimmed straw hat, their heads tilted toward each other. The girl in front rests her cheek against her hand, eyes closed or lowered, while the second girl leans in just behind her, her long reddish hair falling loose over her shoulder.
The shared hat dominates the upper half of the canvas, trimmed with a bright red bow, a soft white feather, and a cluster of pink and coral flowers with green leaves. Renoir paints both faces with a warm flush of pink and orange across the cheeks, and sets the pair against a loosely brushed teal-green background that makes the hat’s colours stand out.
Held at the Tacoma Art Museum, the original measures 32.5 by 41.3 centimetres and was painted in 1890. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, available in a range of sizes to suit any wall.
