Description
This small study, also titled Head of Young Girl (Tete de jeune fille), shows a young woman’s head and shoulders in profile, her gaze cast downward. She wears a dark hat trimmed with maroon and gold, its brim and feathers rendered in quick, loaded strokes of black, burgundy, and ochre.
Her face and neck are painted in warm peach and rose tones, with the profile of her nose, lips, and chin defined by a few confident lines. She wears a pale, loosely brushed garment at the shoulders, and the background is left largely bare and unfinished, with only faint touches of green and grey suggesting a setting. The overall effect is sketch-like and immediate, closer to a study than a finished portrait.
Held at the Barnes Foundation, the original measures 15 by 19.2 centimetres. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, available in a range of sizes for any wall.
