Description
Seen in profile against a shimmering green background, a young woman wears a tall, exuberantly ruffled hat in white lace edged with touches of coral pink and deep red. She raises one hand to steady the hat near her chin, her lips slightly parted, while her dark bodice and a bright red-orange skirt or shawl fill the lower part of the canvas in thick, confident strokes. The greens behind her are broken into short dabs of yellow-green, sage, and darker olive, giving the impression of foliage or a garden setting just out of focus.
Dated 1890, this portrait study shows Renoir concentrating his attention almost entirely on the elaborate hat, letting the rest of the figure and setting remain broadly brushed.
This reproduction of TÊTE DE JEUNE FILLE au chapeau rouge et blanc is available as a hand-painted oil copy on canvas or as an archival giclee print, made to order in a range of sizes to suit any wall, and delivered ready to hang.
