Description
Girls in a Landscape shows three figures gathered in a dense, sunlit garden. At left, a woman in a pale peach dress and a straw hat trimmed with red stands with her back partly turned, looking down at a smaller figure in blue crouched beside her. At right, a young woman in a loose pale pink garment and a flowered hat sits low in the grass, one leg stretched out before her.
Renoir dissolves the setting into a thick tapestry of green, gold and blue brushstrokes, with tree trunks and dense foliage filling most of the canvas; a red-roofed cottage is glimpsed through the trees at the upper right. The figures are painted with the same loose, feathery strokes as the landscape, so that the peach and pink of their clothing blend softly into the surrounding greenery.
Painted in 1918 and held at the Barnes Foundation, the canvas measures 50 by 60 centimetres. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, offered in a range of sizes to suit a variety of walls.
