Description
Jeune fille aux roses is a close portrait of a young woman with dark hair swept up loosely, her striking blue eyes looking directly at the viewer. She wears a pale blue blouse with short sleeves, and rests her arm on a ledge in front of her, her forearm cushioned by a small cluster of pale pink roses.
Renoir paints the face with careful modelling in warm flesh tones, while the blouse and background are handled more loosely, with soft strokes of blue-grey and olive green surrounding the sitter. The pink roses at the bottom of the canvas add a gentle note of colour against the muted setting.
Painted in 1897 and held at the Museo d’arte contemporanea del castello di Rivoli, the canvas measures 47 by 36.5 centimetres. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, offered in a range of sizes to suit any wall.
