Description

Jeune fille au chapeau de paille shows a young girl seen in profile, wearing a wide yellow straw hat tied under her chin with a pale green ribbon. A small white flower ornament sits on the brim. Her white blouse leaves her shoulders bare, and her auburn hair is gathered beneath the hat.

Renoir paints the scene almost entirely in warm golds and greens, the straw hat and sunlit foliage behind her blending into one continuous field of colour. Only the girl’s pale skin and white blouse stand out clearly against the loose, broken brushwork of the background.
