Description
Five female bathers are gathered in a wooded, riverside landscape in this late work from 1918, painted in the warm, full-bodied style of Renoir’s final years. At left, a standing figure holds a white cloth as though about to dry herself; to the right, two more bathers lean and stretch among the foliage while a seated woman in a striped dress and straw hat rests nearby, and another figure reclines in the grass between them. Soft greens and touches of pale blue sky surround the group, with warm, rosy flesh tones dominating the composition. The painting is now held by the Barnes Foundation, part of the sequence of large bather compositions Renoir worked on near the end of his career.
This late Renoir composition is reproduced here as a museum-quality wall-art print, offered on canvas or fine-art paper and made to order in the size and finish that suit your room.
