Description
An elegant couple turns through a waltz in a conservatory, the woman’s pale satin gown catching the light in soft folds as she leans back slightly into the man’s arm. She wears long white gloves, a flower tucked into her upswept hair, and looks off to the side with quiet composure, while her partner in a black tailcoat holds her close, his face turned down and half hidden. Tall potted palms and pale wall panels fill the space behind them.
Painted in 1883 and kept at the Musée d’Orsay, the canvas stands about 180 x 90 cm, a tall, narrow format that mirrors the dancers’ own upright poses. Renoir pairs the crisp black of formal evening dress against the shimmering, almost silvery whites and blues of the gown, a far more restrained palette than his sunlit outdoor scenes.
Reproduced as a giclée print on canvas or fine-art paper, the gown’s silvery folds and the deep black of the tailcoat keep their sharp contrast at every size. Available in multiple dimensions to match the elegance of any room.
