Your house in oil, painted by hand from a photograph, with the trees and garden around it. Keep it as it stands, or let Renoir’s warm, broken colour work on the walls and leaves.

Take the picture this way

  • Stand a little to one side so two walls show.
  • Shoot in low afternoon light, which shapes a facade; midday flattens it.
  • Include the gate, the hedge, the tree by the door.
  • Add a wider shot from further back if you can.

What may be changed

Proportions, windows and roofline stay honest. Parked cars, bins, wires and a neighbour’s extension can be removed, and the season can differ from the one photographed. Say what matters and what does not.

A farm saved for its olives

In June 1907 Renoir bought the small estate of Les Collettes at Cagnes. The olive trees decided him, and he bought it to save them. A new house was ready in November 1908, yet he does not appear to have painted it. Between 1908 and 1914 he came back to the old farmhouse, and The Farm at Les Collettes, Cagnes belongs to that series. The catalogue also holds Homes in Essoyes. A house sits better among its trees than on a bare plot, and oil handles that well.

Faithful walls, or ochre walls

The faithful version paints every brick and shutter as the picture has them. In the Renoir version the lines stay and the colour loosens: warmed walls, leaves broken into touches with sky between, blue instead of grey in the shadows. A house with a front garden takes this best; a flat terrace on a bare street looks better faithful. The canvas is newly painted after his manner and is not an original Renoir.

Format and terms

A house usually wants a horizontal canvas with a little air each side. Sizes keep the shape of your photograph, rolled, stretched on a wooden frame, or framed.

  • A house, smallest canvas, rolled, starts at $218 (30 × 40 cm, rolled canvas).
  • Painting takes 2 to 4 weeks.
  • Photographs of the finished canvas arrive before dispatch.
  • Shipping is free worldwide and tracked. Carriers: UPS or DHL.
  • After dispatch, allow 5 to 7 business days.

House questions

The house was sold, or pulled down. Can it still be painted?

Often. Send every old view and name the year to show, since paint colours, porches and trees change.

Can we stand in front of it?

Yes. Small figures at the door or on the lawn each count as one figure in the price and each needs a full-length photograph.

Is an estate agent’s photograph enough?

Often. They are sharp and well lit, though wide lenses bend walls, so add a phone photo from further away.

What if the painting is not what I pictured?

It can be returned after delivery. Return period: 30 days.

You can cancel your order at any time until it ships.

Two ways to commission your painting

Choose the result you want

This service is not limited to copying an artist style. You can request a faithful, neutral oil painting from your photograph, or a more expressive interpretation.

Illustrative example: a long stone house with green shutters, painted in oil from the customer's photo.
Faithful photo reproduction

The studio preserves the faces, setting, colours and proportions of your reference, without imitating a famous painter.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir-inspired interpretation

The same subject is reimagined with a more expressive palette, rhythm and brushwork. The studio confirms feasibility before production.

Custom painting questions

Can you paint my photo faithfully without copying a famous artist's style?

Yes. Choose the faithful, neutral direction and the studio will preserve the people, setting, colours and proportions of your reference while translating it into a hand-painted oil painting.

Can I request a more artistic interpretation?

Yes. Choose the creative direction and describe the mood, palette and brushwork you want. Your quote confirms what is feasible before any painting begins.

Can you combine several photographs in one painting?

Yes. Several reference photographs can be combined into one coherent composition. Mention who or what must appear, the preferred background and any details that must not be changed.

Will I see the painting before it ships?

Yes. When your painting is finished, we send you a photo of it before it ships. If anything needs adjusting, we correct it before the painting is dispatched.
