Description
A woman with dark hair pinned close to her head sits hunched forward outdoors, her body curled over her lap in a relaxed, informal pose. She wears a loose cream-white blouse and a full blue skirt rendered in broad, sweeping strokes of violet and indigo, while behind her a loosely brushed screen of green and golden foliage fills the canvas edge to edge, with bare, unpainted linen still visible along the border.
The whole sketch is built with quick, confident strokes rather than fine detail, the blue of the skirt and the greens of the setting left to blend directly on the canvas, giving the small study an unusually fresh, spontaneous energy.
This work is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction or as an archival canvas print, made to order in sizes that keep the proportions of the original 24.4 x 26.4 cm canvas, drawn from the version held by the Barnes Foundation.
