Description
A gnarled old olive tree dominates the foreground, its twisting dark trunk and silvery branches framing a glimpse of a pale ochre farmhouse tucked among dense green and gold foliage. Small figures move quietly near the house, barely more than a few dabs of paint, while a lavender-blue sky peeks through the leaves above. The whole scene has the feel of looking out from beneath the shade of the tree onto a sunlit farmyard beyond.
Painted in 1911 at Les Collettes, Renoir’s own property near Cagnes, the canvas is built almost entirely from short, flickering strokes of green, gold, and violet, with the twisted trunk rendered in warmer browns and reds. Light seems to filter through the canopy from every direction, giving the whole composition a shimmering, sun-dappled quality typical of his late landscapes.
Our print reproduces that dappled interplay of gold, green, and lavender light with careful color accuracy, on a museum-quality giclee canvas or fine-art paper. Ready to hang and available in multiple sizes, it brings the shaded warmth of a Provençal garden into your home.
