Description
Rendered in warm sanguine red chalk with white highlights on tan paper, this drawing gathers a loose group of standing and seated female nudes across the sheet. Figures appear at different stages of finish, some fully modeled with soft shading around the shoulders and hips, others reduced to a few quick contour lines, while a small colored head sketch sits apart in the upper right corner.
The chalk strokes sweep in broad arcs behind the figures, giving the whole sheet a sense of movement and rehearsal rather than a fixed final scene. Held at the Dallas Museum of Art, this drawing shows Renoir working through poses for a group of bathers in the warm, tactile medium of red and white chalk.
Our reproduction of Study of Nudes is available as a hand-painted oil copy on canvas or as an archival giclee print, made to order in a range of sizes and delivered ready to hang.
