Description
A young child rests a chin on one raised hand, wrapped in a loose white garment with a hint of ribbon at the collar, set against a rough green backdrop. The small, sketch-like canvas is left unfinished at the edges, with the lower portion barely more than bare, pale ground.
Painted around 1895, the picture is built from quick, loaded strokes: soft pink for the face, creamy white for the wrap, and dark green and brown for the surrounding space. Renoir’s touch here is rapid and unguarded, closer to a study than a finished portrait, which gives it an unusually direct, spontaneous feel.
This piece is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print. It reproduces the work held at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston; it is a reproduction, not the original.
