Description
A young child with strawberry-blond hair and a bright red-orange bow tied at the crown turns to look off to the right, round cheeks flushed with pink and dark eyes calmly fixed on something beyond the frame. The face is painted with smooth, tender modelling, catching the roundness of childhood, while the loose hair falls in soft golden waves around the shoulders, painted in quick, flowing strokes.
The child wears a pink dress with a wide white collar edged in soft blue-grey shadow, the fabric built from broad, warm strokes of coral and rose that fill the lower half of the canvas. Behind, Renoir sets a mossy olive green background, brushed unevenly so that lighter and darker greens flicker through, a cool foil that makes the warm pinks of the dress and skin glow all the more.
This portrait, held at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print. It is a reproduction, not the original painting.
