Description
A boy with short brown hair is shown in profile, leaning forward with one arm stretched out before him as if reaching toward a surface just out of view, an easel or table implied rather than shown. He wears a loose reddish-brown jacket that dissolves into soft, hazy strokes at the shoulder and sleeve, and his face, turned to the left, is rendered with more careful attention, pale skin, a small pursed mouth and lowered eyes suggesting concentration on the task at hand.
The setting is almost entirely dissolved into atmosphere, a warm field of golden ochre and cream broken by a cooler grey-green passage behind the head. Renoir’s brushwork here is soft and blended, the paint thinned and dragged so that forms merge into their surroundings rather than standing apart from them, giving the whole scene a hazy, sun-warmed softness typical of his later work.
This portrait, held at the Museo Soumaya, is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print. It is a reproduction, not the original painting.
