Description

A seated woman folds her hands quietly in her lap, dressed in a loose coral-orange gown open at the chest to reveal a white lace-trimmed bodice pinned with a small pink flower. A wide-brimmed dark blue hat, piled with red and pink silk flowers, frames her round, rosy-cheeked face and softly curled hair.

Renoir surrounds her with a loosely brushed backdrop of green and gold, the colours streaked and unblended in the manner of his late work, so the whole canvas glows with warm, saturated colour. The coral of her dress dominates the composition, built up in broad, confident strokes that leave much of the fabric’s folds only loosely suggested.

This portrait, Portrait de femme assise, is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas, painted by hand to recreate its warm, saturated palette, or as an archival giclee canvas print made from a high-resolution scan. Both are reproductions for your own wall, not the original 1917 painting.

The craft

The oil edition of this Renoir artwork is painted by hand on canvas. A canvas art print reproduces the image in ink, with the brushmarks visible in the picture rather than raised paint.

  • Oil editions painted individually by studio artists
  • Canvas prints reproduce the image on canvas
  • Individually quality-inspected before it leaves the studio
  • Made to order in your chosen size and presentation

Materials & Care

Materials

The oil reproduction is painted on cotton canvas; the art print is printed on canvas. Rolled canvas arrives without a stretcher. Stretched canvas is mounted on a wooden stretcher frame; thin and thick frames are separate presentation choices.

On request, the studio provides a certificate for your hand-painted reproduction; it certifies the studio's work, not an original by the artist.

Care

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid cleaning products, prolonged direct sunlight and damp conditions.

Sizing

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes are available for this reproduction?

The original measures 35 x 27 cm, and we can reproduce it close to that scale or adjust it larger or smaller to suit your wall.

Is this a hand-painted reproduction or a print?

Both options are available. Our hand-painted oil reproductions are painted on canvas by an artist, matching the loose, saturated brushwork of the coral dress. Our archival giclee canvas prints use pigment inks on canvas. Neither is the original 1917 painting.

How is my order produced and delivered?

Every order is made to order and shipped worldwide, arriving stretched and ready to hang. Hand-painted oil reproductions take longer to produce than canvas prints, since each is painted individually by hand.
