Description

A young woman with short brown hair and a fringe of curls looks out with wide blue eyes, her cheeks touched with pink. She wears a loose white chemise that has slipped from one shoulder, gathered casually in one hand at the chest, giving the pose an unstudied, intimate air rather than a formal sitting. Renoir builds the figure in soft pastel, the strokes blended around the face and left loose and hatched in the fabric.

Behind her, the background is worked in vivid crosshatched pastel, rust-orange on the left giving way to blue and green on the right, so colour itself seems to vibrate around the pale figure.
